Golden-Field RCMP had a successful weekend with the Light Up the Province campaign. The campaign is aimed at enhancing road safety during the holiday season and raising awareness about the dangers of impaired driving.

The campaign brought together a strong community effort to reduce impaired driving across the region. The operation ran on December 6th, 2025, covering a range of high-traffic areas and using both roadside checkpoints and proactive patrols to ensure safety for all drivers.

Golden-Field RCMP conducted approximately 125 roadside checks throughout the area, engaging with drivers and ensuring that all vehicles on the road were being operated safely and responsibly.

The operation proved successful in identifying and removing three impaired drivers from the roads, further reinforcing the importance of safe driving during the winter months. Additionally, four Motor Vehicle Act offences were identified and enforced. Also, the police issued 13 warnings.

“This campaign was a great success, thanks to the collective efforts of our officers, community partners, and the public,” said Sergeant Mitch Mercier, Golden-Field RCMP Detachment Commander.

“Impaired driving is a serious risk to everyone on the road, and our goal is to ensure that individuals make the right decision before getting behind the wheel. The response from our community has been overwhelmingly positive, and we are proud to contribute to a safer holiday season for all.”

While the results of the operation show that three impaired drivers were taken off the road, the overall success of the campaign reflects the commitment to safety shared by all involved.

The Golden-Field RCMP reminds the public that impaired driving is not just an offence, but a danger to all road users, and urges everyone to make responsible decisions when consuming alcohol or drugs.

As the year continues, the Golden-Field RCMP remains dedicated to ensuring the safety of our community and will continue to take proactive measures to prevent impaired driving throughout the year.
