Update: Evacuation ALERT cancelled: Emergency Information Update June 1, 2026

in News

The ALERT was cancelled on June 2, 2026. While the Evacuation Alert has been rescinded, residents are advised that an Evacuation Alert or Evacuation Order may need to be reissued if conditions change.

Residents are reminded to continue to monitor the Town of Golden website at www.golden.ca, the Town of Golden’s Facebook and Instagram pages, the BC River Forecast Centre website at www.gov.bc.ca/riverforecast, or local news sources for up-to-date and accurate information. Or sign up for Alertable, our emergency mass notification system, at www.csrd.bc.ca/alertable.

An Evacuation ALERT has been issued by the Golden and Area Emergency Management Program due to high water on the Columbia River near Anderson Road. Due to the potential danger to life, safety, health or property, an Evacuation ALERT is in effect for the following 6 properties:

  • 475, 480, 484, 485, 488 and 490 Anderson Rd

An Evacuation Alert is a warning about a potential threat to life and/or property. It is intended to give you time to be ready for a possible evacuation order. Residents will be given as much advance notice as possible before an evacuation; however, you may receive limited notice due to changing conditions.

What you should do when an Evacuation Alert is in effect:

  • Locate your grab-and-go bags for you and your family. Include essentials like government-issued ID, medications, important documents, and care items for dependents. Make sure you have enough clothing and supplies for 72 hours. Visit www.preparedbc.ca for details.
  • Contact family members, advise them of the situation and determine a meeting location outside of the evacuation area where you can safely reconnect should the area be evacuated.
  • Help your local Emergency Support Services (ESS) team by self-registering now at ess.gov.bc.ca.
  • Prepare to take pets with you and move livestock to a safe area (if possible).
  • Arrange transportation for all household members, including assistance for children, seniors, or those with disabilities.
  • Park vehicles away from waterways.
  • Raise electrical appliances off the ground.
  • Anchor fuel supplies.
  • Accommodation in the area may be limited. Make plans to stay with family or friends, if possible.
  • If you are aware of vulnerable people who may need support, if there is an Evacuation Order, or if you need support moving livestock, contact the Emergency Operation Centre at 250-344-7473

Safety reminders:

  • Exercise caution around riverbanks as fast-moving water can cause erosion and destabilization.
  • Do not attempt to cross rivers or flowing streams
  • Do not drive or walk across flooded roads. 6 inches of rushing water can knock an adult off their feet; 2 feet of water can carry away most vehicles, including trucks and SUVs
  • Keep pets away from fast-moving water.

For up-to-date information specific to Golden and Area A:

  • Monitor the Town of Golden website at www.golden.ca.
  • Follow the Town of Golden’s Facebook and Instagram pages or local news sources.
  • Sign up for the Town of Golden newsletter at www.golden.ca/newsletter.
