Guide Days Folkfest: Edelweiss Village + Resort is proud to announce the inaugural Guide Days Folkfest, a vibrant new cultural event taking place October 18-19, 2025, in the heart of the Columbia Valley.

Set against the stunning backdrop of the Purcell Mountains, this family-friendly folk festival honours the legacy of the Swiss mountain guides who helped shape Goldenโ€™s alpine identity, while also celebrating modern-day guiding and outdoor lifestyles.

Hosted on the grounds of the historic Edelweiss Village – built for the original Swiss guides – Guide Days brings history to life with authentic Swiss food, live music, guided tours of the refurbished chalets, and much more.

Guests will enjoy storytelling from legendary mountain guides, sip locally brewed beer and BC wines in the beer garden and take part in the family-friendly games and cultural performances.

โ€œWeโ€™re thrilled to bring Guide Days to the local community and to guests visiting Golden,โ€ says Monika Yaxley, event co-founder.

โ€œItโ€™s a living tribute to a unique part of Canadian history. By celebrating both the legacy of the Swiss guides and todayโ€™s mountain culture, weโ€™re creating a meaningful and fun experience.โ€

Guide Days fills a crucial gap in Goldenโ€™s tourism calendar by offering free general admission to a family-friendly event during the quieter shoulder season. Guests can purchase paid experiences, including food and beverages in the beer garden, reserved seating for the traditional pig roast dinner, charcuterie boards, and event souvenirs.

The 50-acre property will be open for exploration, including access to the restored Swiss chalets and a large, covered pavilion for day-long entertainment and meal seating.

Event Highlights Include:

โ€ข Live music and entertainment

โ€ข Guided chalet tours and heritage storytelling

โ€ข Regionally sourced authentic Swiss cuisine

โ€ข Traditional pig roast

โ€ข Local craft beers and BC wines

โ€ข Alphorn and yodelling performances

โ€ข Family games and scenic walking trails

โ€ข Free shuttle service to and from downtown Golden

For more information, visit www.edelweissvillage.ca/guide-days or email events@edelweissvillage.ca to book reserved seating packages. Sponsorship opportunities available – contact organizers to learn more.ย

Take a look back at these archival pages from the Golden Star and Golden News about the Kicking Horse Pedestrian Bridge.

Built in 2001 by volunteer timber framers and locals, this iconic bridge is Canadaโ€™s longest freestanding timber-frame structure and a true symbol of community connection.

Now, 25 years later, itโ€™s time to celebrate!

Join us at Spirit Square tomorrow evening (Saturday, Sept 26) to celebrate the 25th anniversary. See you there, Golden!
