Trail runners, weekend warriors, and outdoor enthusiasts are gearing up for the return of the Selkirk Slacker Ultra, taking place on May 23, 2026.

Now in its third year, the community-focused event invites participants of all experience levels to challenge themselves on a scenic 6-kilometre trail loop winding through Goldenโ€™s beautiful terrain. Runners can choose their own adventure, tackling distances from 5K and 10K all the way up to 75K or more during either the 8-hour or 12-hour race formats. Participants can race solo, partner up, or join relay teams for a full day of endurance, camaraderie, and trail-side celebration.

The race headquarters at Keith King Memorial Park will serve as the heart of the event, featuring team tents, aid stations, food vendors, music, and plenty of cheering as runners loop through the transition zone throughout the day. Organizers encourage racers and crews to create their own festive base camps complete with cowbells, chairs, and team spirit.

Race weekend officially kicks off on Thursday, May 21, with the 2026 presented by Brooks at Whitetooth Brewing Company. The evening will showcase inspiring trail running films from around the world and help build excitement heading into race day.

This yearโ€™s event is also placing a stronger focus on sustainability through a new โ€œSwag Swapโ€ initiative. Participants can opt out of receiving race swag, with those funds instead donated to Tree Canada to support tree planting and environmental stewardship projects across the country.

Organizers say the event is designed to be welcoming, inclusive, and fun above all else. Whether participants are chasing personal distance records, dressing up for costume prizes, or simply enjoying a day on the trails with friends and family, the Selkirk Slackers Ultra aims to celebrate Goldenโ€™s growing trail-running community.

The event will proceed rain, shine, or even snow, embracing the unpredictable spirit of mountain running in the Columbia Valley.

Built in 2001 by volunteer timber framers and locals, this iconic bridge is Canadaโ€™s longest freestanding timber-frame structure and a true symbol of community connection.

Now, 25 years later, itโ€™s time to celebrate!

Join us at Spirit Square tomorrow evening (Saturday, Sept 26) to celebrate the 25th anniversary. See you there, Golden!
