The Treasure Hunters Club, By Tom Ryan
Four Points Books: One of the many books I had the pleasure of reading on the beach at the start of the month, The Treasure Hunters Club was a surprising favourite. Hoping to focus a bit on Canadian authors for obvious reasons, I enjoyed the tone and flow of Tom Ryanโs book. It fits nicely into the cozy murder mystery category that I love and is set in one of my favourite provinces, Nova Scotia.
The three main characters are unknown to one another and are all in the town of Maple Bay for varying reasons. I loved the authorโs descriptions of each character, how the voice of the book seemed to change for each – I could picture each characterโs surroundings and feel their moods as the story evolved.
A group of boys make a discovery in their youth that has long-lasting and unpredictable effects on their future relatives in this part historical fiction, part mystery novel. Years later, the relatives are wading through the past to make things right in the present while trying to reconcile and understand the mysterious events from long ago.
A twist is always a must in my opinion when it comes to a mysterious plot and this book did not disappoint. Of course, I canโt say anything else about that, but I really enjoyed that I was headed happily in one direction and got yanked back in another.
Reading can be a sport, my friends, a mind sport but a sport none the less! I was impressed by the authorโs ability to take me in more than one direction and tell several stories at once without confusing me or straying from the plot. Whether youโre headed to the beach soon, or just basking in our glorious mountain climate, put The Treasure Hunters Club on your TBR pile.
