The third annual Schach Therapy 2026 is set to return on Saturday, June 13, bringing together the community for a day focused on movement, connection, and mental health awareness.
Hosted by the Golden Cycling Club, the event challenges teams of two, three, or four to complete the climb and descent of Mount 7 through a relay-style format. Participants can mix riders, runners, and even e-bikes as they tackle sections of the Schacher Trail before descending back to Reflection Lake.
The climb follows the 15-kilometre Schacher Trail, completed in 2018 and named in honour of local rider Sean Schacher. The trail project was spearheaded by local cyclist Jeremy Harris, and organizers say the event continues to celebrate the spirit and community connection that both men inspired.
Teams can switch participants at designated checkpoints along the route, allowing riders and runners of varying abilities to take part. Organizers note that runners are only permitted on uphill sections, and all teams must submit their planned descent route during event check-in.
Beyond the physical challenge, Schach Therapy is rooted in raising awareness around mental health and collective healing. All proceeds from the event support the Golden Family Center and help fund its Drop-In Single Session Support program.
“When we move together, we ignite connection and spark a sense of belonging where joy can thrive,” organizers shared in the event description.
The club is also excited to welcome back the Golden Rotary Club this year, which will be serving up burgers and smokies at Reflection Lake following the team relay.
The day will conclude with an evening concert at Golden Skybridge featuring Vancouver-based band Red Haven. Known for their energetic mix of jazz, roots, and soul music, the group’s performance is expected to bring a lively finish to the community-focused event overlooking the Columbia Valley.
Team relay registration costs $35 per rider, while music tickets are $15 in advance or $20 cash at the door. Volunteer opportunities are also available.
Sign-in and plate pickup begin at 9 a.m., with the relay starting at 10 a.m. Evening music begins at 6 p.m.
Whether you’re in it for a physical challenge or just to hear some live music, attending this event is a great way to support those struggling with mental health in our community and honour those who have paved the way for us.
