Despite the ongoing construction that is currently surrounding it, Kicking Horse Movies & Ice Cream has forged on with its ice cream season! They serve up D Dutchmen Dairy ice cream from Sicamous, a favourite from the neighbouring Okanagan region.
If you’re in the mood for something different, they also offer soft serve ice cream with a variety of flavours, There are over 20 different options to choose from! I am a big fan of soft serve, my go-to is the coconut, and it of course has to be served in a waffle cone. They also offer a variety of other cold treats if the traditional ice cream options aren’t doing it for you. Twisters are similar to the classic “Blizzard” from Dairy Queen. Slush Puppies are slushies that come in two flavours: blue raspberry or cherry. If those both sound delicious, why not try a screamer – half ice cream, half slushie!
If you’re looking for an extra cooling evening, visit the movie theatre for one of the films that are playing and enjoy your ice cream away from the heat in the theatre.
Ice Cream in Golden, BC – Spot #2: Big Cones
Another favourite among locals is Big Cones Ice Cream, where you can indulge in Foothills Ice Cream from Alberta. Known for its high-quality ingredients and delightful flavours, I highly recommend the “All Canadian Moose” flavour!
This spot can get quite busy, considering it’s located between the Petro Can gas station and one of the Tim Horton’s locations, but the ice cream is worth it! Local tip: if you go towards the end of the day, you won’t have much of a wait. Just remember, they’re usually open until around 8:00 p.m., so remember to plan accordingly! They are also cash only, so be sure to have some on hand when heading up there.

Located in the heart of downtown in Higher Ground Sports, the Handle Bar Cafe offers delicious Chapman’s Ice Cream, a well-loved Canadian brand.
Whether you’re looking for a classic scoop or something more adventurous, the Handle Bar Cafe has got you covered. It’s a perfect spot to grab a quick, cool treat while wandering around downtown.
